When two individuals are face-to-face doing that "my leg between your legs my forehead touching your forehead" reverse-spoon, there are now TWO people who have no idea what to do with that arm. I belive they should be detachable.
As for regular spooning, I have short hair and it tends to get up my partner's nose rather a lot if we're too close. Plus, if a guy has big arms and I'm laying on his arm, that arm plus the pillow height wrenches my neck completely out of position. The best compromise I've found is if he sticks his arm through the space between the pillow and my shoulder, so under my neck, basically. That way, the weight of my head is on the pillow and not his arm (less likely to cut off circulation and easier for him to extract the arm). However, he STILL gets a nose full of hair, plus he's usually warm and I get too warm too easy.
And when I'm spooning behind, my arm always falls asleep or begins to hurt horribly in the first 5 minutes.
I hate that arm.

Forward spooning works better if you have a left-handed person and a right-handed person. Just thought I'd mention that...

Hmmmm... it never occured to me that left-handedness or right-handedness would make a difference, but now that you mention it it's true that I would rather spoon on my left side than my right. HMMMmmmmmm
*ponders the scientific implications*

Is a reverse-spoon not just a plain old fork?

Yep and "sporking" leads to actual bodily injury unless you're VERY familiar with the other individual.
