Just to let you know, my computer has completely died (and Macs are meant to be *so* reliable - especially newish ones!) - so I will be late making my picks. I also can't use e-mail until I've sorted out the problem. I'm using a friend's computer at present.

Spent over 1 1/2 hours to Applecare this evening. Still got the black screen with the white lettering. Very nasty. May have to take the computer to a repair place. I'll try to do my picks - having to use a friend's computer when I can. My outstanding subbing job will have to wait until I can get some concentrated time on a computer.

I've now got computer access on my own machine having reloaded Panther, butI've lost *all* my files, including my e-mails, which means I have to start all over again. An object lesson has been not to keep important information in my files, which isn't backed up.

Blimey, that's terrible! Times like this I wish there was something helpful I could do, but I can never think of anything...

Nothing anyone can do, I don't think. However, as I said, I've learned a big lesson - back things up. I didn't know how to do this, and it seems I need some sort of external hard drive - or a .Mac account.
