Great topic. Looking forward to seeing what else you write. In over two years living in Japan I only had to use the squat type twice. In emergencies. Terrible.

Heh. The squat type wasn't too bad (the one time I used it), but changing in one of the stalls for one was horrible! My hostfamily had western toilets inside and one squatter that was accesible only from the outside. Apparently most private toilets are western style and most public are squatter. The most interesting thing is the tissue people!
