I must recommend the Vojon Indian restaurant on St Helen's Rd (opposite the chemists near to the Weatherspoons' roundabout).
Friendly staff; superb top-notch food; long wine list; Cobra on tap, and no more expensive than your average curryhouse elsewhere. Their Hasina Chillia Chicken and Saag Paneer comes highly recommended.

I see you've beaten me to this one. 
I'll second the above, although I'd reccomend the Balti or Tika Saag as being more suited to the lovers of a medium strength curry.
