Hi there ST smiley - towel

In the first paragraph, you mention it as being named as the Flemish heavy horse. You repeat this later on at the start of the brief history section, where it is better placed. I would suggest changing you first paragraph to:
>>The Belgian heavy horse is, as the name suggests, from Belgium, a small European country with abundant rainfall and very fertile soil...<<

there size and strength >> *their* size and strength

>>The Belgian heavy horse were exported<< mixed singular/plural: should be either <> or <>

>>Second World War saw a decline in their commercial use as mechanisation<< put a comma after 'commercial use'

>>Their numbers dropped dramatically as a result however<< again add a comma, or possibly a semi-colon, after 'result'

>>it's country of origin<< remove the apostrophe

You talk about it as the Belgian horse throughout the entry, so shouldn't the title be swapped round: The Belgian or Flemish Heavy Horse?

I agree with all the other comments, except that it should read:

< its' country of origin>, the apostrophe was just in the wrong place.

Could I also suggest you try and reduce the number of horses you have in the first paragraph? smiley - biggrin There are rather a lot.

Hi ST,

A good interesting read. Just a few minor nit-picks to make it flow better smiley - ok.

smiley - biro Belgium is in the area of Western Europe where these big black horses known as Flemish or Belgian originated <> and were actually referred to as the great horses by medieval writers.

smiley - biro There was never a need to import any other breeds into Belgium itself as this was the country of origin for the heavy horse breed <> and all they had to do was to refine and fix the genetics they already had.

smiley - biro As a result of this there followed an improvement in the breeding methods which meant a fixed breed type was established <> and the draft horse of Belgium became a national heritage and a sought after treasure at home and abroad.

smiley - biro It was an effort that was surrounded by controversy at the time over which type of draft horse was best for the Americans<> but it also <> created a great deal of interest in the breed.

smiley - biro Though <> used mainly for showing and some advertising campaigns for various companies some have been put back into use in forests.

smiley - biro * As you have changed Though to They were, perhaps a 'but' after companies and before 'some' would help.

Nice article. I'm not much of a horse/animal person but it was an interesting read all the same.

One comment:

"Belgium government" -> "Belgian government"

(There's two places in the article for this).
