Talking Point: Wasting Time

9 Conversations

A man with an iron.

This weekend the clocks will go forward, and the nation will 'lose' an hour. In 99.9% of households, this will mean losing an hour's sleep. But why do we make the same mistake, year after year? Sleep is universally acknowledged to be A Good Thing. It feels good and it does us good, as our grans knew and as scientific studies now routinely confirm.

So, wouldn't it be much wiser to chisel away that hour from some other parts of our day? From activities that seem necessary but are actually aren't. Like standing around waiting for the kettle to boil. Watching adverts. Ironing. Engaging in party wall disputes. Or mulling over your finances. You know the sort of thing we mean. So, ahead of of British Summer Time, we want to know:

  • What's the biggest waste of time in your day?

  • What do you think other people waste their time doing?

  • Can you 'out' something that people think is necessary... but actually isn't?

  • Do you have any tips for people to save time in their day (that day being Sunday 30 March)?

  • Has the clocks going forward ever completely ruined your day?

  • Will you get enough sleep this weekend - or will you be caught out once again?
