I hope this isn't too late:

1843 - Brunel opens tunnel under river Thames which will later hold the East London line. It was the first underwater tunnel in the world.
1863 - Metropolitan line opens between Paddington and Farringdon Street (a disused station on a branch just before Farringdon).
1868 - South Kensington to Westminster section of District line opens (in those days it was run by the Metropolitan line).
1880 - Tunnel from Tower of London to Bermondsey built using Greathead shield method for cable cars to run inside, later to be turned into a foot tunnel and then into a water mains tunnel when London Bridge built.
1884 - All sections of Metropolitan line and District line which now constitute the Circle line have been completed.
1890 - City and South London Railway opens deep-level tunnel from Stockwell to King William street (a disused station on a branch north of Borough).
1900 - Central London Railway from Shepherd's Bush to Bank opened.
1905 - District and 'Circle' lines electrified.
1906 - Baker Street & Waterloo Railway from Baker Street to Kennington Road (present day Lambeth North) opened.
1907 - Charing Cross, Euston & Hampstead Railway opened from Charing Cross to Golders Green and Archway (then known as Highgate).
1908 - the collection of lines gets called the Underground.
1913 - classic Underground symbol appears
1933 - Harry Beck's map appears
