A Conversation for Terry Pratchett

Another I'd recommend is Tom Holt BUT once again only the early books. Oh, and he has the best titles too.
"Expecting Someone Taller" is a magical updating of the Ring Cycle; "Who's afraid of Beowulf" is pretty damned good too. "Flying Dutch" and "Djinn Rummy" are worth a look.
Lately, he seems to have been churning out extremely convoluted plots usually involving the interplay between the writer and the narrative, coming dangerously close to authorial navel-gazing. By the time of "My Hero" I'd basically given up hope - I don't think I even finished it. Sad, because when he's good, he's as good as anyone (except our patron, of course).

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
