...instead of 100. Pleh.

Only a quick not to say that Pennsylvania isn't landlocked. There's Lake Erie to the left of it on the map.

And the Delaware River makes Philadelphia a major port city...

Did I ever tell you guys that Delaware was once a part of Pennsylvania so that William Penn's colony *would* have plenty of access to the sea. But for some reason he gave it away and the Blue Hen State was created...

Little known fact - The University of Delaware Blue Hens are the only female sports mascot in NCAA Division I sports. smiley - geek

It's inland. Lake Erie is an inland fresh water lake. Admit it Jimi you do not have a maritime climate or lifestyle no matter how much you protest. I've read the articles smiley - winkeye

Quoting from www.inventpa.com :

"Over 3,000 ships load and offload at the Port of Philadelphia each year -- making it one of the busiest ports on the Atlantic coast. The Port of Philadelphia handles more than one-quarter of the entire North Atlantic District's annual tonnage, and is the fourth largest port in the U.S. for the handling of imported goods."

I quote a very reliable source:

The climate of south-central Pennsylvania is officially classified as 'humid CONTINENTAL'. What this means is that there are four distinct seasons - too hot, too cold, very nice, and quite pleasant.

Also I've looked up the Tidal Limit of the Delaware River which states that this is From the PA state line upstream to the U.S. Route 1 bridge. No idea where that is but is seems like Penn state counts as being inland.

You guys are smiley - silly Is it really that important whether or not Pennsylvania has a maritime history or not? (it's not)
Ohio... that's a different story. We have a the southern side of Lake Erie, the Scioto, the Ohio, the Canals, the Muskingum, the Cuyahoga. The Ohio is connected to the Mississippi, and is one of the most heavily used rivers in the US. Now, while the Ohio's origin is in Pennsylvania, it has the same name as my state of Ohio.

I can also taste the salt in the air.

Smell the seaweed in the breeze and benefit from all of this in the depths of winter unless I venture inland or uphill. smiley - smiley
