It would be very encouraging to hear from anyone who has read this entry and would like to let me know what they think.

Gnomon - time to move on

This is an excellent introduction to the koan. Wasn't there a famous zen master who wrote an essential collection of koans, the Gateless Gate, I think. This might be worth mentioning.

I think you should insert the word "that" before "the koan is logical".

When you say "en passé", I think you mean "impasse".

Excellent stuff! smiley - ok

Hi Gnomon

I have made the changes to the text you have suggested. Many thanks for pointing these out to me, I can become blind to my own words sometimes especially after reading through an entry a few times smiley - smiley

One of the koan links is to a page called the Gateless Gate, although I don't think it is the text you refer to. It is a good little text however because it sums up the koan and spirit of Zen quite well, so I will see if I can work it into the entry.

Many thanks for your help, these suggestions are very useful smiley - ok

As always I got it wrong. smiley - smiley The link in the entry is to the original text of 'The Gateless Gate' by Ekai (Mumon). I was thinking of another text called 'Bulls' by Kakuan.smiley - ale

Gnomon - time to move on

I remember now. The Zen master was known as Mumon. His book "The Gateless Gate" contains a number of koans, each with a commentary by Mumon.

The text of it is available at http://www.terebess.hu/english/gateless.html
