The present article is a very brief overview of a very complicated political equation. If anyone was to arrive in Hong Kong though, I trust this would give them an instant means of negotiating their way around many of the things they would find commented upon in the local newspapers.

Interesting and informative.
It would benefit from a little bit about what happened in the years just prior to the handover - the form of government put in place by Patten, etc.
Also - somehere near the beginning, maybe a sentence or two about the lease agreement which meant it had to be handed back...eventually.
Maybe some sub-headings would help to break up the narrative into manageable chunks, too - eg: 'Historical Context' 'The 20th Century' 'The Handover' 'Chinese Rule'

I think I've now gone a little way to meet your requirements without getting too bogged down in the details of the narrative. One could, and probably should, write a book on all this, let alone a short piece. Patten's own book is lamentably thin and notable more for what he leaves out, leading one to suspect that his presence here, even if his personal motivation was not, was more about keeping down Chinese migration than seriously changing the political landscape. Beijing of course maintains that the Democrats were a product of Patten and his attempts to sabotage the stability of Hong Kong after the handover, but whether they seriously believe that or merely find it a handy stick to beat the Democrats with is impossible to say. All positions are true because political action is usually more about maintaining control than about ideological abstractions.

It's a great entry, well done! I'm no expert on the content, but just one suggestion on the style. Where you have capital letters to seperate different time periods, try putting in a < HEADER > at the start and < /HEADER> (both without the spaces) at the end of the line. You'll probably find it looks that bit better and instead of capitals, just use sentence case.

Yes - I like this one. There is some speculative writing at the end which might need to be looked at, as it appears to be opinion based rather than factually based - democracy 2012 now, etc.
Also, you should add a footnote that the Cultural Revolution was the cause of the chaos in the 1960s.
Cheers,
Woodpigeon
