The ZX81
Created | Updated Apr 18, 2002
An ancient ancestor of today's pocket calculator, the ZX81 was less powerful, with irritating touch pads for keys and a 1k memory. This could be upgraded to 16k with the addition of a RAM pack, although actually touching the ZX81 whilst the pack was connected would invariably result in a crash and the smell of crisping electronics. If anyone ever offers to sell you one, run away from them. And telephone the police. Or the Army. Or someone.
The ZX81 was actually an upgraded version of the ZX80, whose touch keyboard bended when pressed, and was even more unstable.
The inventor was a Mr Clive Sinclair, a mad man who invented a strange motorized bathchair and something called a Microdrive (a seperate invention). He now lives somewhere.
