The h2g2 Poem

Kali

Red tongue
Dripping blood
Ashen.

Black eyes
Blinding vision
Terrible.

Girdle of arms
Garland of skulls
Regenerate.

Origin of chaos
End of evil
Primeval shakti.

Queen of darkness
Nectar of rebirth
Blooming red javas.

Power of living
Power of dying
Timeless.

She is you
Coy village girl
She is me
Beggar at her feet.

NB: According to Hindu mythology, Goddess Kali is the ferocious form of the Divine Mother, who sent her Shakti (Energy) the Mother Gauri, to free the gods from the dominion of demonic forces Shumbh and Nishumbh, who had conquered the three worlds of earth, the astral plane and celestial plane.
Kali is the Goddess of time and of the transformation that is death. In the ignorant ones she creates fear, while for others Kali removes the avidya (ignorance) that makes us fear death, the basic insecurity, a primal fear rooted in the brain stem. She is also a potent symbolism of feminism, an image much revered by feminists all over the world.
