The shootings took place in April - I believe it was Hitler's birthday April 20.
I work in a public school here in the states and believe me, that's a date that we all remember and brace for until it passes...
I've never read anything that alleges that they were a pair of nuts and that they had no plan and the attack was totally unprovoked.
They most definitely had a plan as can be clearly be seen in their elaborate preparations before the attack. Chilling stuff.
