Tried both when in Japan in '93, once on the Shinkansen from Tokyo to Kyoto. Since then can recommend the Yumi Japanese restaurant in Edinburgh, (bit pricey but worth the experience). There's also a couple of places you can get into slurping noodles, and don't forget to try out the Daruma-ya in Leith
