I like what Paul Merton said in the Masterson Inhertiance:

"Plans, what are plans really?, Just schemes and ideas one thinks up in advance"!!!

True, I can't see the point of 'being in this job in five years time, having this much money by then, having this car by this time' you might get hit by a bus tomorrow

Well you might... but chances are you won't!

Some plans CAN be that specific "certain car, certain salary"...but some can be less materialistic....e.g

I want to eat a pineapple under a Hawaiian waterfall
I want to be in a job where I feel I am making a difference
I want to stay in contact with my friends
I want to see Paris by night from the top of the Eiffel Tower

I like those kind of plans, although I'm not that fond of Pinapples and I don't like hights, but I've been on holiday to the USA twice, been to Berlin, I've got my daughter, I've got money, I can relax a little now, can't afford the cruise but once you've been around the world where will you go next year, I still like to live one day at a time, I'm the Act on Impulse type, I'm also a typical Virgo talk about your conflicts

Sorry I acted on impulse.

I don't make plans I focus on satisfying enhancing and cultivating certain desires. for example rather than plan to lose weight and make a schedule and milestones and all that I evaluate whether I should walk to the store or drive with my health in mind. so my goal is to change what I pay attention to and value. in 5 years I hope this will lead me to be a successfull graphic designer make a tidy sum of money at a fullfilling job with a girlfriend I feel very good about.

You may well achieve your goal if everything else goes to plan.
