Just an idea, but it might be nice to put all the entries about single line kites into one glorious article smiley - smiley

Here in LA where it is hot and sunny: a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen.

A tough kite bag to hold everything so you don't need to wonder if you've got everything when you get to the park or beach. This is also handy if you happen to have lots of kites...

If you have a number of kites, and are not sure whether there's enough wind to know if any particular kites you have on you are going to fly, a portable anemometer is awfully handy.

Have a few extra snap-swivels so you can attach tails to kites that normally don't need them (say, a tumbling box when the wind is steady), for days when the wind is gusty and squirrelly.

Have a few extra tails for the same reason, and also because some kinds of tails tend to get tangles. Extra string for when your line gets snarled or broken. It's much easier to fix these things at home when there's no wind and you can use a magnifying glass, so why ruin your kiteflying time by not having spares?

If you've got a dragon kite, or some really long streamers, cards to wind them on (like the reinforcing cards you get in multipack underwear) can make them easier to launch the next time.

When you list things it might be a good idea to do it like this:

A kite

Some flying line

A handle or reel to wind the line onto

That makes it a numbered list, meaning you don't have to write the numbers in, it's better Guide-ML and is just...better smiley - biggrin

I'm currently trawling through all the other kite entries so I may come back here in a bit.

Hi, Em.

I *think* these articles are done, but nobody seems to be commenting. Is that good or bad? Or am I just being paranoid?

Kiteman.

Ah hang on....UNFORTUNATELY what you need to do is take out the bar links. You need to put them like this:

<!-- THIS LIST LINKS ALL THE KITE FLYING ARTICLES TOGETHER, HOWEVER AS THE ARTICLES ARE NOT YET IN THE EG I COULD NOT LINK THEM TOGETHER YET.

Kite Safety | Launching and Landing a Single-lined Kite | Single-Line Kites: A Basic Glossary | Single-line Kites: Essential Equipment | Tails for Single-line Kites | How to Launch a Two-Lined Kite by Yourself
--->

This will mean that your sub will be able to see what you want done. You can't link the articles together because you can't link to things not in the EG yet. It's a bother but needs to be done. The <!-- ---> means that when you read the article normally none of that will be seen, it can only be seen when you view the coding.

You know that noise Muttley makes when he doesn't get a medal?

Anyhoo, glad to see you're up (?) and about. I hope the drugs aren't getting you too woozy. If you're bothered by depression, I was there once, and I now find the stuff called "Rescue Remedy" helps me when I see a bad time on the horizon. You should be able to get it from health shops, and maybe Boots.

Be well.

Your Guide Entry has just been picked from Peer Review by one of our Scouts, and is now heading off into the Editorial Process, which ends with publication in the Edited Guide. We've therefore moved this Review Conversation out of Peer Review and to the entry itself.

If you'd like to know what happens now, check out the page on 'What Happens after your Entry has been Recommended?' at EditedGuide-Process. We hope this explains everything.

Thanks for contributing to the Edited Guide!

Occasionally. Occasionally it's difficult. By the way, I've got your safety article tucked under my belt for subbing, second one of yours.

I do a lot of reviewing, and no it's not that easy as a general rule. I think the main appeal of your entries was that they were concise but packed with new information to the Scouts. Your review thread was interesting to a larger than normal audience, too, because there were also technical questions. Huge articles that were well written got some serious attention back when we had a larger editorial staff. Now that we need to be sure the article is nearly perfect before we submit it I have noticed a tendency of the Scouts to go for the shorter ones, because they are way way easier.

Another appeal to the Scouts is that your articles are *almost* a University project, and they (and me) miss that it no longer exists. I am thinking if you rustle up another 8-10 articles on kites, you could probably petition for a badge.

When I submitted my recipe Entry that got Edited, I essentially did what every Researcher in the Review thread recommended, and it got picked immediately after incubation. (I was a bit mean and mulish to the folks that commented outside of the Review thread). I don't know if this was an appreciation for my rather prolix and chatty writing style, or the fact that all the Scouts knew me because I do tend to post here a good bit.

Congratulations - Your Entry has been Picked for the Edited Guide!

Subconcious (after some time running around brain, kicking over chairs until some body notices): "Look - somebody said something quite important - read it again, you dope"

Me (reading, lips move slowly): "Another appeal to the Scouts is that your articles are *almost* a University project, and they (and me) miss that it no longer exists. I am thinking if you rustle up another 8-10 articles on kites, you could probably petition for a badge."

Me: smiley - doh

A badge? Coo, what sort of a badge? Gosh.
