The end of the Divine Comedy

I just read the Guide's only entry on The Divine Comedy and thought it was great. They band are now coming to an end sadly, as i'm sure the author knows: according to the New Musical Express, Hannon is now unable to pay his players due to the poor sales of the latest album Regeneration, which saw the band take a new direction. I was fortunate enough to see them on the most recent tour when they performed at the Glasgow Barrowland ballroom. This was the first time for me, and to be honest i take a pretty idle interest in the band. After the show i was indeed ashamed of being only an idle fan (as one should feel after a good performance).

The most poiniant moments were those reminders that the Divine Comedy
are more than the novelty band that the humour in their lyrics sometimes suggests. Regeneration featured strongly. The most famous songs were conspicuously absent (no Something for the Weekend, no Alfie) but the selection was seriously light hearted without them.

Hannon wooed the crowd between songs, sipping a Red Bull and vodka. Highlights included Your Daddy's Car, Songs of Love, Pefect Lovesong and a cover of Frankie Goes to Hollywood's The Power of Love, which ended the show.

I'm assuming and hoping that Neil Hannon himself will continue to work solo, hopefully with every right to weild the Divine Comedy repetoir.

I honestly thought that a band with such a startling repetoire of melodic and insightful songs had to have an article written about them in such an illustrious and broad-minded organ as h2g2. Unfortunately, I have forgotten my password for my other page, and so cannot reply to peeps under the name of Necro until inspiration hits me and I remember the damned thing. Ho hum.

But thankyou for the appreciation.
