A Conversation for Talking Point: February

Yay for February!

The good things about February…. I got married in February, so I have a wedding anniversary to look forward to. I am a mad keen gardener, so I start planting seeds for the summer showing of vegetables and flowers in February. It is a great month to start preparing for garden renovations as well as the sap in the old plants is not yet rising, and the plants can be moved with fewer risks than if you move them in March. Crocuses, snowdrops, and other bulbs are making an appearance; the days are getting longer (at last!)… Ooh, and lots more!

Five things to do in February…. 1) plant some flower seeds. 2) go for a walk on a nice fresh clear sunny day, and I defy anyone to come home without a smile on their face. 3) make pancakes 4) send someone an anonymous Valentine 5) have party on Leap Year Day – just to celebrate an extra day!

Obviously my most special memories from February’s past are about my wedding. We chose February because it does tend to be a bit of desert as far as parties and things to celebrate go, and I was due to get my final accountancy exam results about two weeks before our wedding date. The latter bit didn’t happen, but the wedding was fabulous! 5 years ago…!

Hubby and I have very low key Valentine’s Day celebrations. I refuse to go out for a meal to places which hike their prices up especially for one night. Also our wedding anniversary is a week later, and that is more important for us than a hallmark holiday!

Thank you! If you had asked the same question in January, you would have got a very different answer!

Of *course* February is important - it has my birthday, my sister's birthday, and my father's birthday smiley - winkeyesmiley - cake

Also, January is when all the annual fees are due - insurance, Uni tuition, sports club, library, etc... so February is the first time I've actually got a little spending money since October, because November's and December's went for Christmas presents.

It's the end of the semester, so lots of parties with free food - and time off to look forward to. A field trip, in my case, though that's mostly in March.

Plus - it's about six more weeks of cold weather now. Six more weeks where only wearing long-sleeved shirts is comfortable. Which is good, since it'll be about six more weeks until my arm is healed enough to be able to take off a short-sleeved shirt. smiley - laugh

There's also a full lunar eclipse on the 7th, though you can only see it from Antarctica. smiley - moon
