Absolutely. Clothes are the first sign of a civilised world. Its a primary necessity along with food and shelter. But " flesh of clothes " , here , typically means a final stage of spirituality where renouncement is a saint like act of absolution. Buddha did hit. Its a union with a higher power where the material world is left behind.
