If you polish an idea long enough...

It is an odd fact of life
that in the middle of other strife
people will fixate on the a tiny thing
far removed from the obvious scene.
In stead of dealing with reality,
they wander off into a silly fantasy
that, while it may improve their morale,
ultimately tightens their mental corral.
Trapped in a world they didn't make,
they don't even bother to make one for their own sake,
not even in their own imaginations,
settling for the herds ruminations.
If you polish an idea long enough,
it not only becomes smooth instead of rough,
it eventually begins to wear away
because you don't care if it goes or stays.
It wasn't your idea in the first place
you borrowed it without permission
you couldn't create your own to save your face
or even to earn manumission.
And of course, if someone you know
actually gets tired of the herd and has a go
at thinking for themselves,
you either shun them or yell BINGO!
So play that broken record, over and over
the blunt needle digging a deeper groove.
So play that broken record, over and over
the blunt needle digging a deeper groove.
So play that broken record, over and over
the blunt needle digging a deeper groove.
So play that broken record, over and over
the blunt needle digging a deeper groove.
So play that broken record, over and over
the blunt needle digging a deeper groove.
So play that broken record, over and over
the blunt needle digging a deeper groove.
Until the needle breaks off
or the point wears through.
Then you'll bitch that you have nothing to do...
