A Conversation for Talking Point: Chicken

Alternatives to animal products

I think we should really think of alternatives to animal-products in the future, for environmental reasons, animal welfare, fighting of world hunger and for health-benefits.

I can think of 2 main groups of such foods:

1. Vegetarian Meats, Non-Dairy Milk Drinks and Egg Replacements

These products simulate or copy the animal derived products. There is a wide variety of these products currently available on the market. We use the terms, “vegetarian meat”, “non-dairy milk drinks” and “egg replacements”.

2. "In-Vitro Meat" or "Cultured Meat"

Future Technology:
The point with this group of foods is that actual meat is produced without the use of animals, not “just” products which are copies of meat. This process is still largely in the research stages and therefore, for the time being, still a dream.

What do you think?

Keith Miller yes that Keith Miller

I think Johnathon Swift had it about right with his:
A Modest Proposal: For Preventing the Children of Poor People in Ireland from Being a Burden to Their Parents or Country, and for Making Them Beneficial to the Public, "Swift suggests in his essay that the Irish might ease their economic troubles by selling children born into poverty as food for rich gentlemen and ladies." (Thank you Wiki)

There! Just replace Ireland with whatever country you prefer, most countries these days have heaps of poor wallowing in abject misery and woe ,put them to good use I say.
They breed like rabbits are easilly entertained just ask the Tabloid Press Barons and stay fertile for a good forty years or so.

Problem solved, now all the cute little lambs and calfs and itzy bitzy chicks and ducklings can roam free and we can all feel good about the whole thing, whilst making a considerable inroad into Welfare Reform and Foriegn aid budgets.smiley - biggrin
