JTG it is a most valuable article what wrote and posted on these pages.
It was a great time when the United Nations were established hoping that there will be no more war.
By now-- if it was funny--- I would say: It is a joke.
Nobody, but nobody pays any attention to this establishment.
Governments do as they please and as it comes "handy" for what ever reason to cover up the madness of the human species.
To all this adds up those natural disasters in magnitude what have not seen before.
I only can tell: The Earth had never as many people as there are now. The loss of lifes are also conected to that. The poverty what comes with over population some times is the reason for such losses.
In South-East Asia Tsunami events perhaps would not be so tragic, if there would have been more money available to establish a more secure warning system. But it was just too many poverty around.
There are many many reasons to look for solutions, but the madness of the human is not only when it comes to war, but before that.
As you look the younger generations: the majority is involved how to have fun? How to get "rich" without working? How to have good time on drugs?
So than where could you start? Well Nature-- also has some brutal ways with much suffering in these disasters and don't forget what Nature can do with bacterias and viruses.
It would be time to get to more education, simply more mature attitude, discipline and above all: use the Nature given brain of men for better life on Earth, on this beaten up Earth.

Thanks, Blue Bird. That's kind.
Those are very good comments. I think it really comes down to simply choosing to do better. It's too easy to make excuses and to make believe we're dummer than we are - that's what children do. What we have to do now is stop making excuses and start behaving like responsible adults.
