I'm impressed with your picture - it looks more like the Whitcliff side to me I'm also glad that my e-mail helped.

I must say, though, that I am impressed by the work you have done, I can't see well on this scale, but can you see any evidence of either a fort or a monument on the top of the cliff? It doesn't seem to look like the Culver I know to me.

I've sussed what is wrong. It's not Culver at all - of course not! It's painted FROM culver, looking south down Sandown Bay with Shanklin and St. Martin's Down in the background! No wonder it didn't look right. It must have been done before Sandown and Shanklin peirs. Are there any evidences of houses at all anywhere?
