In the 15th Century there was a little skirmish between the English and the Welsh. England wanted control of Wales, and Wales wanted independence. One might say it was a hopeless cause, but a man by the name of Owain Glyndwr (spelled Owen Glendower in Shakespeare's King Henry IV, Part 1) didn't think so.

The last Welshman to style himself as Prince of Wales, he led the last meaningful revolt against England. Unfortunately for him, he lost. The country of Wales has now assimilated much English culture, and yet, at the same time, retains its sense of Welshness, as evinced with town names like, Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch, or Bwlch.

Could something similar happen again? Probably not. But you never know...
