Surely as the founder of some sort of sport/movement, you are in an excellent position to write about it?

I suppose one could argue that the entire entry might just be a ploy to advertise CCD logo (link not working for me btw) bearing merchandise, but you certainly couldn't argue such a case very convincingly, especially with the current 404 error smiley - winkeye.

Anyway, the change of "the Sport" to "a Sport" is much better smiley - ok.

I know its kind of not, by definition, in the spirit of CC *Diabolo*, but I think its worth noting that very similar games can be played with other juggling equipment - balls would be a bit easy, but clubs and devilsticks would present a reasonable degree of fun/challenge, even though they don't offer the long range leverage advantages of the diabolo.

Thanks for pointing out the non-functional links smiley - doh I suppose I can't link directly to the picture smiley - cross Oh, well, then at least I can put in a little description under the pictures.

There's no merchandise - the shirts we use were made using a printer and an iron-on transfer smiley - laugh So if anyone wants to do the same, they're welcome to it!

And yes, other equipment might work, but throwing a ball back and forth is so very *mainstream* as sports go, and the others just don't have the same distance, I'm afraid. Passing from atop things is another challenge entirely! And dunno how well devilsticks can be passed smiley - laugh

Though maybe there should be an entry on different passing styles, too smiley - jester Maybe the Juggling Waltz, that's always fun... Or "Chaos Juggling" as my group calls it, where two people each juggle a cascade, but both share the ball that's currently up in the air smiley - winkeye Yay, material for more entries! smiley - somersault

Yeah, like I said, leverage helps the diabalo.
Devilsticks have certainly been passed by this researcher, but not across really long distances - they have too high a surface to mass ratio, and tend to be susceptible to wind fluctuations - and of course, the least susceptible spin, the helicopter, is the hardest to throw and catch.

Clubs are pretty good though, and as for balls - at a british juggling convention a while back, I saw two guys practicing a long range feed - one bloke started juggling one ball in one hand, and another stood at the other end of the square and tossed him balls... I am not sure how far apart they were, but accuracy of the throw was a problem - it was closer to the length of two tennis courts than the length of just one for instance. Of course, the more balls the receiver has, the more accurate the pass has to be. Luckily the feeder had a huge supply of balls, and there was a pretty good cheer when the receiver eventually managed his 4 to 5 ball transition (which I can't even do if the feeder is right next to me). It was also pretty funny watching the receiver failing to dodge all the passes which were fairly accurate but not quite accurate enough smiley - smiley

smiley - laugh The trouble with devilsticks is also the fairly large diameter, I'd think they would get stuck in trees and things. But then in my group, "passing" devilsticks usually means juggling them and the handsticks like clubs; I've never tried passing helicopter spins, though we have had a sad, miserable failure at juggling three of them between two people with handsticks smiley - laugh Maybe we need more practice smiley - whistle

smiley - wow Impressive, passing over that distance! Even getting them that far takes some skill, let alone accurately enough smiley - laugh

Say, might you be interested in collaborating on an entry for various passing styles? Though I must admit I can't really make sense of the counting system, puzzles me as much as knitting patterns do smiley - huh

(Ah, yes, the logo. Perhaps for the less ambitious and more hootoo-minded, we should change it to 42 km smiley - winkeye)

Ooh I think I could do the counting bits... would need to do a bit of research first though - not got any friends to pass to at moment, as I currently live out in the juggling styx, so I am way out of practice...

RL is a pain though, so don't expect half an entry arriving in your PS tomorrow or anything - I tend to be a bit of a slow burner entry-wise.

Maybe you could also help with my plans to AViate the juggling page?

Your h2g2 link seems to link to the entry itself, which is a bit strange smiley - erm...

And I am back to being unable to see your photos, though that might just be me?

The photo links work fine for me (IE), and the h2g2 links leads to the FP, so will have to be removed anyway, I guess, as will the link to 'Everything'

Yes, sorry, simpost.

Why will those particular links have to be removed? I thought a bit of self-reference would be useful for people who stumble across this entry over google or something (as there's not a lot else written about CCD smiley - winkeye)

The pictures work for me, too, in Opera, even when I'm not signed in to my Fotki account.
