Hello Peerers
This entry arose as a result of a conversation with Websailor and others.
Too many people have a negative view of sharks, based on lack of knowledge. So here's an entry to increase people's understanding of these amazing animals
Happy to receive comments, as always

No you didn't... I just overlooked the footnotes...
Would it be better to have it the other way round, I mean, footnote the non-metric and leave the metric in the body? Not that it matters much, or at all, but it would make it easier for dull readers like me...
Ah, wahtever... This is a great Entry. Period... no...
...make that an exclamation mark!

All righty...in the Help on Writing an EG...it says the guide wants metric to be the official point....

There is only one thing worse than being Gosho, and that is not being Gosho Posted Sep 21, 2004
Fascinating entry Fb, and another one bound for the Front Page. If this one don't make Editor's pick and get a nice graphic, there just ain't no justice
"They are the equivalent of Formula 1 cars in the ocean"
Rewording that along the lines of 'They are the marine equivalent of the Formula 1 racing car' might give less of an impression of Ferraris up to their axles in saltwater
"...will introduce the reader to one species" then "It will then go on to provide the reader with some..."
Since you've already mentioned 'the reader' in the first sentence, you can safely lose "the reader with" from the second.
"longer than 1.6m long"
No need for 'long' if you have 'longer than'.
"has a pointed snout"
'and has a pointed snout'
"This is why most sharks seen to have"
'Seem to have', or 'are seen to have'?
"When it is swimming, the mouth is closed"
'When the shark is swimming, the mouth is closed' - gives less of an impression of the mouth swimming on its own.

Ivan the Terribly Average Posted Sep 22, 2004
Not all sharks are viviparous. Here's one that isn't - the Port Jackson shark. Many years ago I used to find the egg-cases washed up on Adelaide beaches, and feel vaguely sorry for the female shark. There's a photo of an egg-case here somewhere:

I suspect a few other sharks also lay eggs.
Ivan.

Ah, yes, Ivan... my mistake. It's the family of Carcharhinus sharks that are all viviparous.
Thank you for spotting that. I'll amend the entry

Good entry, Frenchbean!
Here are some minor points:
present little danger to us. Just so long as common sense is used in their presence.
-->
present little danger to us, just as long as common sense is used in their presence.
Blacktip Reef Shark: It's unusual to put a link on a header. I'd suggest you move the link to the first sentence of the paragraph, which also contains the term Blacktip Reef Shark.
This is why most sharks seen to have three --> This is why most sharks seem to have three
over a kilometer away --> over a kilometre away
