A Conversation for Bad Advice

When you first told me that you'd written an artical on bad advice, I thought you meant somebody gave you bad advice on wrting an artical . First thing I thought when I read this artical is that it needs an entire section on drunken advice, as it's a whole horrible catagory of it's own. Also, I noticed that you listed alchohol as both a source of bad advice and a solution. A very observant observation . Maybe some famous examples of bad advice? like "yes, let's rob the Watergate building with some inexperienced cubans" or, "How about we invade russia?" - an alarming number of european dictators. Maybe expand the initial section explaining what bad advice is, including why people follow bad advice, i.e. the afformentioned drunkenness, stupidity, masochism etc. But all in all a good and enjoyable artical, on a topic not covered by many other H2G2 articals.

Thanks! Good ideas, especially subcatagories of bad advice. Should I hit unsubmit and edit it, or will anything I do just translate? Oh, and here's a quote from the Simpsons about alchohol..."To alchohol, the cause of, and solution to, all of life's problems."(Homer Simpson)

hitting unsubmit I have found completely pointless. Seeing it takes the sub editors 10 weeks to get to looking at your artical from the time you submit it (not their fault, I know) unsubmitting then resubmitting just wastes time. And everything you add they can see, because they don't get sent the whole artical, just it's address to my knowlege.

PS I like that quote!

Thanks. I'll just alter it as I go then. I like the idea of subcatagories of bad advice, such as drunken advice, but I can't figure out how to fit them in without jarring the flow of my entry. I think they need to be somewhere in the beginning, before the how to identify bad advice section. Since you seem to have time to spend, maybe you could have another look and see if you can think of a way. Also, I've used your two suggestions as celebrity bad advice. How can I make sure that you get credit?

Here's some advice:
1. If you want other researchers to be listed in the top right, mention so in the text, and the subeditor will do so when it's approved. You could put it as a footnote or as a HTML comment to make it more subtle, the subeditor views the code only, so s/he'll see it.
2. If you make changes to a article you've submitted, and it hasn't been approved yet, you don't need to resubmit it. The subeditor views the latest version anyway. Resubmitting it will mean it's put at the end of the queue again.
3. You should put this article through a Swedish spell checker and accept all the changes it suggests.

1) Good advice 2) Good advice 3)Bad advice
Thanks. Can you tell me how to make a message to the subeditor show only in the GuideML, and not as part of the entry? I can probably figure it out, But if you know it will save me some time.

Umm... there is no specific GuideML tag but I think the HTML comment tag will work. As far as I remember, it's something like:
<!-- this is a meaningless comment -->
You can put anything you like in the comment, as long as it's not the ending tag -->
If it doesn't work ask me again!

Woah, I had no idea this forum had been updated. Sorry, Buff, and thanks, Peregrin. Buff, you made an ironic comment when you said I had time to spare, because Term is back on and my time just dissappeared like.... something that dissappeares quite fast. Don't worry about crediting me on the artical, it's yours.
And as far as I know, Peregrin's comment thing is right.

Actually, I worked out another way to do this. I just stuck my comment in between the and the tags at the beginning of my entry. It doesn't show up when viewed in non-edit mode, and it's practically the first thing a subeditor will see. It seems to work fine so far. And as for crediting you, done deal. It's in my note to the subed.
