h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

Is it possible that the Berliner Ensemble, as described in the guide, has only been seen by the H2G2 Researcher team? I have never heard of this group and should be very grateful to receive some proof of their existence...

Oki, no problem, I've found all the answers myself...I now know why the H2G2 researcher team didn't find the Berliner Ensemble very funny....it's probably because plays like Shakespeare's "The Tempest" are not exactly supposed to be very funny...well, maybe none of the honourable researches has ever had English Literature or German classes...oh yes, dear reseachers, please note that there is a difference between stand-up comedy and theatre...

The Berliner Ensemble (as everyone has said) was formed by Bertolt Brecht. The general idea is that it performed plays of a political nature designed to make us proletarians think about ourselves and our lives and do something about them - this was in the beginning. He used popular forms of working class theatre (i.e similar to variety performances, cabaret, stand up comedy etc) to hopefully give everyone a jolly good time while hopefully making them think. Whether or not you agree with his ideas or enjoy his plays (you can do one and not the other, trust me)is another matter. BUT the Berliner Ensemble are indeed still going - although they are trying to "move out of Brecht's shadow" - this is all very interesting but useless in practical terms - unless like myself you are about to embark on a 3000 word essay about it!
