Alan Shearer would bring back the passion? He's as passionate as a lettuce leaf.
And yes, the fact that he quit playing for England six YEARS before he gave up at club level should count against him. He didn't care about playing for England then, what makes you think he'd have "passion" for them now.
England are not Alan Shearer's footballing love, Newcastle are. Also, if Mourinho is first choice, what the hell are your criteria if Shearer is second?
The only possiblr argument on Shearer's side is "we need an English manager, and there aren't many who are much cop". But if that's your basis, it would rule Mourinho out.
Even the "must be an Englishman" argument should see Shearer behind an English manager who has managed internationally, and with some success, and also managed one of the continent's biggest sides.
If Roy Hodgson is not a better option than Alan Shearer then I'm Ade Akinbiyi
