Could we have more descriptions of the various hats?
There are also several Doctor Who guide entries that you could link to.

Although I know which Doctors you are referring to in this entry, it would be good for most non Whovians to know which actor you are talking about. Yes, *we* all know that Tom Baker was the forth and wore 'that scarf' and a rather fetching hat but others may not.
(I rather liked the reference in the CIN special to Peter Davison's *need* to wear a hat! )
Good start keep it up!

Hi Terran,
Links to some of the existing Who articles would be good. Also hats worn by characters other than the Doctor (or it might be better to change the title to show this only deals with the Doctor's headgear).
FYI - Panama hats like the 5th Doctor's are noted for their ability to be rolled up and re-worn. It's not a special power of the Doctor's hat as the article seems to imply.
Otherwise - nicely off-beat!

If you're mentioning the policemans helmet you should also mention the motorcycle helmet the Doctor wore in the Idiots Lantern.

"Panama hats like the 5th Doctor's are noted for their ability to be rolled up and re-worn."
Cheers I'll fit that in somewhere. I'm just trying to think which links are best at the moment (obviously the Doctor Who main one).

Oooh yes, I'd forgotten about that. I'll have to add something like 'The Doctor since the 7th Doctor hasn't worn a hat, except for one blip in London during the Queens coronation, when he had a brief flirtation with a motorcycle helmet'

Cheers for taking an interest by the way

Hey Terran. Just a few things here.
"(a supposedly fictional television programme about a humanoid alien called the Doctor, from the - now blown up - planet Gallifrey , who can travel in time and space in his TARDIS)"
Supposedly fictional? No, it's fictional. Most definitely fictional. Never claimed to be factual, nobody thinks it's factual, why put in a throwaway 'supposedly' into the sentence?
"In the context of Doctor Who hats have a significance"
If only that were true, you might make an entry out of this. I'm sorry mate, but this is basically: "sometimes the Doctor wears a hat. Here's a list. Bye." No comment, nothing about the significance of them in story terms, or indeed in cultural terms.
And believe me, you can go into loads of depth when it comes to culture and hats in the UK. Hats are basically a class signifier - different styles for different classes, and then all of a sudden, there's no hats on British streets! No top hats, no bowlers, no flat caps... Just the odd nike cap or football beanie.
At the moment, this is just fluff, to be brutally honest. You're a great writer, I love most of your stuff, and I quite like you as a person so please don't see this as an attack on you or your skills, it's just that there's really nothing here other than what I mentioned two paragraphs up.
Sorry. Just had to call it like I saw it.

I thought you were a bit harsh there Psycorp.
I don't know anything about Dr Who and never read Dr entries, but thought this quite neat and off the wall.
I don't know about the accuracy, although I'm pretty sure that the Dr is fictional.
I still think this is a nice little entry about hats in the show.

Quite alright Psycorp, and like wise I respect your view of the guide. Firstly though I agree this is unashamedly fiction. Infact this is exactly what the guide needs. Doctor Who is fiction itself. To be brutally frank this isn't an encyclopedia as such... or at least not in its strictest definition, otherwise I think we'd have about 100 entries. Nor should it ever be. We're not trying to be Wikipedia or the Encylopedia Galactica.
Perhaps saying the Guide needs fluff is a little bit of a harsh indictment on the guide, but perhaps more writing on what sparks peoples (or perhaps the laymans) interest isn't harmful. It depends what you want this guide to be - if you do want it to be an encyclopedia then I'm sorry but we're fighting a losing battle.
But your right to your opinion is what makes this Guide great. But without entries like this - I mean I don't claim to say that this is great in its current incarnation but I've seen enough entries of this type to say that this is exactly the type of entry the Guide needs. Not specifically this entry, but this type if you follow my meaning.
Because the personal touch, the ability to catch peoples imagination, is whats guided a lot of people to this very site. I wouldn't be here without it.
Anyway just my . I'll update it in the next few weeks.

Someone had something rather nice to say about deadline once... and the noise they make as they pass by
Yeah real life has been intervening, and has been continuing to intervene, up until today really. Which is a shame because I really like doing this.
I'm going to put some links in now, while I have the time, and come back to the serious edits... hopefully if you can hold on for a little while longer I'll have a much better entry for you
