Hiya Hell,
Came across your Entry when I was preparing a Lesson Plan on 'The Mole'. (Thinking of writing a GE on this).
I have, of course, prepared lessons on this before, but I've never really been satisfied with how it came across. Also, I lost all my Lesson Plans when my computer 'died' a couple of months back. Hence, one reason for getting my notes onto hootoo!
Anyway, I thought it might be worthwhile your pointing out explicitly that, in some parts of the World, the Avogadro Constant/Number (L) is sometimes called the Loschmidt Number; which is why it has the symbol, L.
I always remember a student asking me about this and I didn't know the answer at the time).

Yo BIGAL, how about collaborating? I was trying to do one on concentrations (molarity, molality, activity, mass-percent, volume-percent etc.) and found out there's a lot to be understood before going on to the relatively simple definitions of the concentrations. That's why I needed an Entry on the 'atomic mass unit' before going on to the 'molecular weight' (aka 'molecular mass') and another one on the mole (like talking about how Avogadro found out, and Loschmidt determined the number by looking at the densities of crystals and doing a lot of educated guessing...).

Sounds a good idea. I haven't been involved in any properly collaborative entries yet, so it would be interestiong to see how it works

Just to let you know I've written the first few tentative words in a joint entry called 'The Mole (Chemistry) at 2998876.

I should have said A2998876, to enable you to click on it.
I don't know how frequently I'll get around to adding to it - probably more frequently than I ought!

OK, I'll bop my notes over there then, OK? (I'll put the parts for inclusion in GuideML so you can copy and paste the bits). You, as you are the 'editor' can do the edits then. How's that sound?
I'm over there, now
