A Conversation for The HitchHikers Guide to the Galaxy movie

just been to see the hitchhikers guide to the galaxy movie
at one of the free screenings set up by empire magazine
h2g2 has for me like many others has a special significance
as i used to listen to the original radio series whilst i was at school

i read some mixed reviews before setting off tonight
so to some extent i was prepared to not like the movie
but i did like it even though it is flawed
it’s by no means as articulate as the books or radio series
at times the douglas`s wordsmithery and nuance
is replaced by broader humour and slapstick
and characters fleshed out throughout the trilogy in five parts
have only walk on parts in this screenplay

it must be a difficult juggling act serving up the beloved story
in a manner that doesn’t rely on foreknowledge
whilst trying to avoid oversimplification
perhaps unavoidably what you get is only a flavour of the original
despite this the film is funny
even a film with a diluted flavour of douglas
is better than most cinematic delights served up for our digestion
