"Some of which should be used for the time needed to travel from Amsterdam to Groningen which is about 3 to 4 hours by train."
by train is 2 hrs 20 min. just checked on the web.
the 10 pubs (in Dutch call it a cafe) on the corner of "de Grote Markt" and "Gelkingenstraat" make together largest pub of Europe. all 10 pubs are connected.
the pubs have names like "De Drie Gezusters" and "De Groote Griet".

Hy pheloxi,
2 hrs 20 min? from where? and do you have to transfer or chanche trains then. And yes, all the cafe's which you said (kroeg / kroegen has the same meaning) are interlocked and you can get lost there easily, (I could do it...) but, as interesting as that is, i choose to mostly leave those pubs out as they are expensive and very standerised.
Kindest regards,
Atom_boy

good job Atom-boy! good to read that many of the pubs are (after 20 years) still around. Wasn't the Drie Gezusters burnt down a few years ago? Is the Pakhuis still there and Het Winkeltje? (in the Kromme Elleboog I think). Great reading, add! add!
And yes, trains from Amsterdam to Groningen take about 2 or 2.5 hours.. (well, they did some time ago)

BTW; if you take the train from A'dam schiphol it's about 2.5 hrs..if you take the A'dam centraal train its a 3.5 hours.
