The Plays of William Shakespeare

Shakespeare surrounded by lines from Hamlet

We all know 'to be or not to be', but shockingly not everyone knows which of William Shakespeare's plays it comes from. (it is, of course, er... thingy. Whassisname. The Danish bloke). We're blessed with a splendid entry or two on the man himself, but the complete works of Shakespeare are anything but, as far as the Edited Guide is concerned, which is why we now call upon you, the h2g2 Community, to help us plug those gaps.

Tell us:

  • What are the basic stories for each of the plays?

  • Who are the notable characters?

  • Which quotable lines will never fail to impress - and what do they mean?

  • What are the themes that drive the plots?

  • Why are these plays so relevant today?

The best contributions will be collated to form a future collaborative entry, so anything you can offer will be gratefully accepted.
