Ok.
sentinal - sentinel
"isthmus of land"
An isthmus is by definition a stretch of land, but you could leave that in and see if anyone picks up on it - it's very picky and pedantic
"the central bowl of Mainland Orkney"
I'm not entirely sure about that, but I don't really know enough of the Orkney topography, and I can't think of another way of putting it.
"scanty remains"
When I hear the word 'scanty', my mind wanders to underwear Scanty doesn't quite seem the right word for that... how about 'meagre', or 'sparse', or 'insubstantial'?
"west of the B9055 in Mainland Orkney"
'on Mainland Orkney'?
"OS Ref HY294134"
That's not going to mean much, even to some Brits. An explanatory footnote would be a good thing
Do Historic Scotland have a website?
"a circle of standing stones, or occasionally one of timber"
That's a hard one to get sounding right. Maybe 'a circle of standing stones or timbers'? That doesn't sound too good either.
Maybe in the What is a Henge section you could also add a bit about what they were used for... as far as we know.
comples - complex (at a guess)
"which is no longer visible"
'now no longer visible' (because the previous part of that sentence also begins with 'which').
"the stones stand stand against the sky"
I guess you should also give measurements in imperial - 103.6m = 339.895' and 8435 sq. metres is 90793.58 sq feet or 2.084326 acres. How do I know? The same reason I'm always on the ball with those temperature conversions - http://www.joshmadison.com/software/convert/
"Of the 13 that are known about, four are"
You can probably lose the 'about' and the sentence would still be perfectly
"healthy patches of lichens of grey and orange"
'healthy patches of grey and orange lichens'
"would have to be stripped, to allow the outlines"
The comma isn't necessary.
I'd better finish this off later - it's nearly dinnertime

Just as well I have my own personal pedant around! Thank you
Thanks for that little lot. I'll get onto it this evening. Hadn't realised I'd made so many little slipups.
I think I'll leave one or 2 things in for the other picky peerers out there
Good dinner?

Oh, the usual for me at this time of the year - a plate piled high with lettuce, olives, tomatoes, cucumber, grated carrot, chicken, grated chees, and a couple of slices of bread

Oh, I shouldn't have read that in the office, before I get anywhere near my kitchen
Perhaps I'll just leave the pile of work and go home now

OK: I've done most of those edits - even the ultra-pedantic one. However, I cannot be held responsible for the fact that your mind equates 'scanty' with underwear I like the word and it means what it says. So there!
Good idea to have a link to the Historic Scotland website. I'll do that for the other 2 entries as well. Also the OS Ref footnote
And in doing that lot, I even found a couple of typos you didn't spot! - or were you just testing?
Off home to the kitchen now...

Hurray, h2g2's back and working , but still a little bit Anyway: here's what I was trying to post when it went tits up on me last night.
Is that why you only commented on half of it?
Actually though, you're right. I don't like the entries that go into PR and only get a few comments. Like the yeast one: hardly any, except ZSF's topic drift So let's leave some stuff for other people to do
But I do like the comments like "Fb: another cracking entry. Well done!" and "I didn't know anything about this before, but it's really interesting. And so well written "
I'm not sure anybody's said exactly that (except me, just now ), but they've certainly been along those lines. Peerers have been awfully nice about the history of Samoa
You got mail btw What again?? surely not??
