RFJS__ - trying to write an unreadable book, finding proofreading tricky

My general view is that, in Internet Explorer at least (I don't know whether this works in other browsers), you can open links in new windows by right-clicking and selecting the relevant menu options -- so the default option gives a choice in the matter.

I think some people dislike having more than the minimum amount of open windows, so I've stuck with the default. Personally I share your preference, but I just right-click.

Hmm, true.
I don't intend to change mine back unless necessary though.

New links to A112366, A223705 and A277427 in the fourth paragraph. Basically minor stuff.

No, just looking for excuses to bump the thread up.

Such as adding links to:

A429969
A271720
A593048
A575642
A364213
A340822
A918461

I'm hoping the fact that only two people have commented on this Entry indicates that there's very little to complain about.

Or maybe the stuff about kanji scared everyone off...

I've decided to link to another Aeris shrine I've come across; the shrine also provides yet another name theory.

Plus the speculation regarding the 'Safer Sephiroth' name.

In view of the existence of http://forums.adventchildren.net/index.php?s=53b225f5489a6b08741ea3dbeb6ef067&showtopic=5410&st=0 and http://forums.adventchildren.net/index.php?act=ST&f=1&t=8223 , I thought I'd better provide some sort of warning/background; hence a new paragraph in Tifa's section, which conveniently increases its length. (It looked terribly short next to Aeris' because there's far less to be said about Tifa's name.) Alas, the best link I could find on the subject was http://strife.nu/tifa/outfit.html , which I don't think is of sufficient quality to link to; attempts to search for more information just threw up hentai sites. Hopefully the new paragraph is suitably unobjectionable.

I've added an explanation of the term 'PHS'.

I think that's probably just about it... Does anyone else have any comments to make?

I've been there before: F1760880?thread=390234 .

Anyway, I've come up with the odd other minor edit; I'll have to add those on Friday evening.

It does worry me somewhat that only two people have commented on this; the topic is hardly an obscure one. I know silence can be a weird sort of implied compliment, in that threads here tend to be most vocal when there are plenty of things to criticise, but there's always the worry that the Entry just isn't being read, and that everyone is perhaps busy commenting on 'Fermat's Last Theorem - the Solution'.

Anyway, I've been playing FF6 quite a bit over the past few days...

I've tidied up a few linguistic points, added a couple of extra smidgeons of information, and added a few more links.

I wonder whether those opera lyrics do have more than incidental significance...

If not many people have commented on this here in Peer Review, it is probably that -- in general -- entries that are summaries or reviews of books, films, and video/computer games tend to generate far less interest than entries on other topics.

Is the bit in italics at the beginning a direct quote from the game? If so, that needs to be noted.

My main problem with the entry as it stands is that I think it's simply too long -- at 4600 words, it's long enough for several entries. While there is no firm upper limit on word length for Edited Guide entries, anything over 2000 words is generally considered too much these days.

Oh, please don't say that...mine's about 6.5k, and no-one's told me to shorten it - just suggested things to add.

When entries that long are accepted, the common practice is to split them up into separate, smaller, linked entries in house. I always recommend that authors do so themselves, otherwise there's no guarantee that such a split will happen to their liking.

However, in those cases, it is usually a topic that *needs* a longer entry. I really don't see that as the case when the topic is a video game.

Just my smiley - 2cents

Well, my entry isn't about "a video game" - it's about a rather long series of extremely popular video games. Still, I could probably split it if necessary....

From both the title and my read of the entry, this certainly doesn't seem to be an entry about the entire series of Final Fantasy games -- rather, it seems to be specifically about Final Fantasy VII, with comments here and there on how this one is different from some of the others.

An entry that was on the entire series would probably have a separate section for each game.

In actuality, that might be a good way to split this entry -- one entry on the Final Fantasy games in general, and one specifically on Final Fantasy VII.

One area that does seem to need trimming, regardless of any splitting, is the footnotes.

smiley - cheers
Mikey
