Tanis

Tanis is also a hero from a fantasy series known as Dragonlance. A red haired Half-Elf, he is a thoughtful, intelligent character, yet decisive and strong, with great leadership abilities, and the respect of his companions.
As you can guess, my son is named after him. His mother and I met roleplaying on the internet about 4 years ago. She was playing an elf, and I was playing a human. It sort of evolved from there, first suggested as a joke, we then thought "why not?", lets name our kid Tanis if it is a boy.
Since then, the name has popped up occasionally, and I would like to use this medium to catalouge the various meanings or connections with the name Tanis.
First off the bat is.....
Tanis, a city of ancient Egypt on the Nile's eastern delta, situated at present-day San al-Hajar al-Qibliyah, was a major seaport and the capital of Egypt under the kings of the 21st dynasty; since it stood near the border with Asia, it was also significant militarily. Under other dynasties it was the capital of a province. The city remained important until the flooding of Lake Tanis (now Lake Manzala) led to its gradual abandonment during the 4th century AD. In 1866 the German Egyptologist Karl Lepsius discovered at Tanis an inscription known as the Decree of Canopus. Like the ROSETTA STONE, it was written in hieroglyphics as well as two other scripts, including Greek. Temples and statuary as well as a necropolis were also found.
This may have been the city from Indiana Jones.
