I love my curries, Opti - I couldn't possibly waste the spices! smiley - smiley

Maybe I'll keep the out-of-date ones and then my daughter can have a go.

Hi Opti,

Very interesting, but I'm not quite sure how the spices etc are fixed in place - if you're going to hang it on the wall.smiley - erm

Perhaps I'm missing something and they're all done on the ground, but even so, I'd expect some agent would be needed to hold them even temporarily....... if I have the wrong end of the stick don't worry about it.smiley - ok

I'm sorry Opti, would you then consider removing the part in the first paragraph which states they are on walls of Indian houses.smiley - erm

>>They are created in front of the entrances of houses, in courtyards, on walls of Indian houses, in places of worship and at places to eat.<<

Hello again Opti, I admit I know nothing about this and have never seen it, but an internet search produced this

*Rangoli: Encyclopedia - Rangoli

Rangoli is one of the most popular art forms in India. It is a form of decoration that uses finely ground white powder and colours, and is used commonly outside homes in India. Rangoli can be wall art as well as floor art. The term rangoli is derived from words rang (colour) and aavalli ('coloured creepers' or 'row of colours'). Rangoli - Origin. The origin of rangoli painting is traced to a legend recorded in the Chitralakshana, the earliest Indian treatise on painting. When the ... *

It seems that it can also be wall art and I'd be interested to know how it can be applied.smiley - erm

smiley - sorry

Well .... this entry certainly did what it's supposed to do and made me curious about the whole thing - I've searched for the past 40 mins and can't find any directions for wall rangoli - which is really cursious since every site bar none states that it is wall as well as floor art.smiley - doh

smiley - sorry I can't be of any help in this ...... but I can't wait to find out.smiley - bigeyes

Well done Opti, so that woman is painting a wall rangoli ..... that clears it up a bit - the rangoli is the picture prayer - I thought it was a picture made with dry ingredients.smiley - doh

Maybe you could have another look at the entry and see if this is clear - it may just be me.smiley - rolleyes

Can you give a better pronunciation guide? You don't say how to pronounce the final i. Is it ran-goal-ee or ran-goal-eye?

This is very good, Opti - short but sweet smiley - smiley

I don't quite understand 'It consists of a traditional Indian image filled in by colourful food ingredients and other household items, such as flowers and paint.' - I think it needs rephrasing. Also, you don't give any indication of how big a rangoli is.

smiley - ok
