Nice intro to aikido 
I disagree with you about the biggest disadvantage, though - I reckon there's actually a lot of things "stoping an opponent from getting back up afterwards" 
Wish your entry and the other had been combined to form the official entry.

The idea that you wouldn't want a foe to get up is against the principles of Ai (harmony) Ki (with nature/universe). It is not about killing and maiming. It is about pacifying any aggressive or other type of attack from such a foe
