A Conversation for Talking Point – So long, and thanks for all the fish…?

The loss of the Yangtze River Dolphin should sound a warning to all of us, that what we are doing to the natural world will eventually impact on us.
No way is this 'natural selection', and 'survival of the fittest' is a risky idea. Even the fittest will survive only until their situation becomes intolerable.
Whether we talk of Yangtze River dolphin, mountain gorillas, orang utans or any other threatened species they will survive only as long as their habitat remains large enough, and of sufficient quality to sustain them.
Eventually, if we continue destroying 'our' habitat not only will we lose all the wildlife upon which we are dependent (whether we know it or not!) but we will lose our own foothold in this delicate web of life.
