When challenged about the effects of, say global warming, the opinion is put forward that in the past, the world has endured much worse, much harsher changes in climate.
The message appears to be: the world will survive.
As far as I can see, this is great. We only kill ourselves, but life will continue without us.
So what about it? Perhaps we should accept the inevitable. We are a cruel, greedy, squabling species.
I have tried to practice this super-rationality, in another form. As have my parents, and many others. The christian great commandment - "love one another", I think is simply this. And yet, anyone who truly practises this, to the best of their abilities, is taken advantage of.
Perhaps we should accept our natures are too stubborn to change. Perhaps we should look for something else. The longer we stay, the more damage we do. We should not expect to survive.
We should pay our respects, and go. The human race should die a slow, graceful death. This would leave the way for other species to develope, and perhaps take our place.

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
