In the Colorado Plateau there are many spots where igneous rock has pushed up through the sedimentary rocks. The Colorado Plateau is the large area covering the Southwest part of Co and the Southern half of Ut and the Northern part of AZ. The Grand Canyon, Bryce Canyon, Glen Canyon, and Zion Canyon are all carved out of this structure. In Wupatki in northern Az volcanic rock has come up through the sandstone, this has caused many unique rock formations.
