I was at a cinema in Accrington around... 1980 I would guess. There were two blokes sitting behind me who had some kind of in-joke between them. They used Kate's name as an expression of astonishment - a substitute for 'Well I never', or "Did he really?' or 'Well I'll go to the foot of our stairs'. When said with the right inflection and with a broad Lancashire accent, it really works
