I too was moved. I won't write more than that, as I don't think words can describe it, and to attempt to would just sound fake. So understand I am silent in thought.

I remember this. It was actually on Blue Peter years and years ago. I was always kinda surprised that it got on because it was deeply upsetting and disturbing, as well as being a very beautiful story. Of course, the ultimate happy result of it is that she did die happy - apparently very content with her task folding cranes.

I don't remember the first time I heard this story, but it was a long time ago. I do remember it brought tears. And though I have told this story (as a preface to an origami demonstration) to many, many elementary school children over the years, the tears still flow when I read it. I am glad it is here on the guide. I hope it will be included in the Historical Society links, too.
