I've actually never heard the B stand for "bottle." I've always heard it stand for "beer." I guess I don't get invited to those high-class parties where they serve beer in the bottle

Well it can stand for beer, Black Bush, Barcardi, Beaujolis, brandy, blackcurrent cordial for all I care, as long as you bring something you will drink.
Anyway as students it was always Bring a bootle to the Eurovision Song Contest. By the time of the voting, drinking cheap and powerful wines, we were singing all the words.
