VSC: What is it with Nigel Clough?
GreyDesk Started conversation Jan 9, 2006
After his playing career was curtailed through injury, he took himself off to some non-entity of a club in the Unibond Premier League to learn the ropes as a manager. After he'd been there a couple of years he found that he could still play a bit at that lowly level, so started turning out for the team as well as being its manager.
My question is: after 7½ there hasn't he learnt enough about the management game to progress on to a proper football club?
Also just because he's Ol' Big 'Ed's son, does he really deserve the media profile that he's got. I think not. Burton Albion are a mediocre team in the Conference League. Under his leadership they've achieved just one promotion in those years. Yet he's regularly featured on TV football programmes like Football Focus etc.
I think it's high time that he put up or shut up, and went off to work at a proper league team.
