The Memorial
Created | Updated Mar 12, 2004
On the edge of the park that surrounds the Temple of the Guide is a Memorial to Fallen, Forgotten, Lost and Missing Researchers.
Just outside the Memorial is a sign which reads ....
Please respect the request for silence and decorum around the Memorial and it's environs which honour much missed comrades.
The path from the Memorial leads to the Entrance to the Temple of the Guide.
The Memorial
The memorial is carved from Scottish Highland granite and is in the shape of an obelisk. The memorial has bronze plates affixed to its sides which lists details of researchers who have fallen to the forces of darkness or who have disappeared in mysterious circumstances.
The Obelisk is set on a four stepped plinth of honey-hued limestome around which is carved in bas-relief the words "In Memory of a valiant Researchers who tried to keep the vision alive"
In the small but perfectly kept garden around the memorial, is a contemplation pool containing water gathered from each of the seven seas. In the middle of the pool burns an everlasting flame symbolising that the memory of them shall never fade. The garden is a haven of tranquility in the middle of the Temple.
The Salonista Plate
On one bronze plate on the memorial is a particularly sad story in the history of H2G2, about a group of researchers who left their Atelier to return a Goo Spruce Christmas Tree to the Forest. They disappeared on this trek never to be seen again. Their comrades searched high and low for them for years and years and eventually with great sadness gave up their search. The Atelier without it's chief patrons was reduced in circumstances and eventually fell into disuse and disrepair. It was eventually boarded up and it's location forgotten and lost in the mists of time.
The Book of Rememberance
The Book of Rememberance lies open at the foot of the memorial protected by a clear crystal case.
On the front of the Book in embossed gold leaf are the words originally given to us by the blessed DNA.
So long and thanks for all the Fish
