Rats

I used to have a pet rat, although as it was white and had pink eyes it looked a lot cuter than your average brown rat around your dustbin.
Pet rats can be very tame and will sit on your shoulder if handled regularly and seldom bite, unlike your average hampster. They also spend a lot of time cleaning, although sensible precautions like washing hands after handling are required.
.
Not seen any rats in my communal garden although do have Magpies and Jays, both of which I love. I don't even mind Pigeons, I have a pair of inseperable loved up Collared Doves at moment who can't bare to be apart for second!

Hello SS,
I have no objection to pet rats, and I have to say I have been fascinated by our viisitor, which reappeared yesterday after disapearing for a week, just as I thought it was safe to put food out again!! I would say washing your hands was mandatory after handling any kind of pet.
I suspect the fascination would change to horror if the numbers increased, but at present it is just interesting to watch.
Your story of the 'loved up' collared doves amused me. They are such loving partners and attentive parents aren't they? Though like pigeons they are are 'loved up' all year round!!!
I love the jays, so pretty, and big, yet shy and quite timid, not a bit like the magpies.
There are not many birds around here at the moment. The rain is either putting them off, or there is plenty of natural food.
