London Eye

0 Conversations

The London Eye is the world's largest ferris wheel. Situated between the Shell Centre and the old County Hall, HQ for the now defunct Greater London Council, it dominates the South side of the river Thames.
It is terribly controversial, with plans to run it for just one year, many have called it a waste of money.
Recent developments have involved the possibility of people getting married in it.
The wheel is the fifth tallest structure in London, with Canary Wharf, the Telecom Tower, the NatWest Tower and (just) Guys Hospital above it. Each car weighs about nine tons and were taken to the wheel by river, being to big and heavy to get through the London streets.
Whatever people say about it, it is impressive. Having seen it consructed horizontally across the Thames and then lifted into position was a little awe-inspiring.
The question remains as to how long it will continue to be used. The Eiffel Tower was built for a weekend exhibition. Maybe this will become permenant too.
